AHEAD the Association of Higher Education Access and Disability, is the National Centre of expertise on the inclusion of students with disabilities in higher education.

We work closely with staff across higher education institutions and share our practical Knowledge about building confidence in including students with disabilities in their professional practice. Our work involves working with academic staff and also staff involved in other key functions such as career advisor on the transition to work and international officers on making international experience accessible for students with disabilities.

Originally a Teacher, she was shocked by the difficulties students with disabilities have in doing the things other students take for granted, ordinary activities such as getting into college, reading all the books on the course, going on an internship and getting a job.

AHEAD also works with employers, sharing practical information regarding flexible recruitment process development and selection strategies that can create a diverse work environment.

Ann Heelan, BA, H. DIP. Masters in Education, Training and Development, is Executive Director of AHEAD.
