Born on September 23rd, 1954.

Married with three children.

Telecommunications engineer, Technical University of Madrid (UPM).

Master studies at IESE Business School.


2002: started working in Vodafone on the position of Chief Operations Manager. The year later (2003), he was elected Chief Executive.

2008: elected Chairman and in April 2012, left the position of CEO.

Since 2012, President of Vodafone, as well as Vodafone Foundation, and member of Vodafone Group Foundation Board of Trustees (present in 40 countries).

Previous experience:

1983: Director of the subsidiary of the multinational IT company, Hewlett Packard.

1992: started working for Pacific Telesis, now AirTouch Internacional, as Director-General for Spain. At the end of 1994, he was elected Chief Technical & Operating Officer, responsible for network development, systems, call centers, operation and maintenance of launch services.

1998: started working for Microsoft Ibérica as Chief Executive.

Other activities:

President of March JLT.

Member of Professional Council of ESADE Business School and Advisory Committee on Administration at the European University of Madrid.

Member of the Council of the APD (Association for management Progress).

Member of Círculo de Empresarios, the Club de Excelencia en Sostenibilidad and numerous associations operating in fields of telecommunication and information society.

Participates in various venture capital funds for internet and technological projects such as Vitamin K.

Teaches Strategic Management at IESE Business School.
