Mariano Jabonero (born in 1953, San Martín de Valdeiglesias, Madrid, Spain), obtained a degree both in Philosophy and Educational Sciences at the Complutense University of Madrid. He covered a wide range of positions as a member of the technical staff within the Spanish Ministry of Education, such as Education Inspector both in Barcelona and Madrid. Furthermore, he occupied senior management positions within the same Ministry.

He is a Professor at the Faculty of Education of the Complutense University of Madrid. Moreover, he is the author of multiple articles, papers and conferences, with a special emphasis on education and Ibero-America.

On different occasions and within various programs, he lived and worked in all Ibero-American states, as a Consultant or an Expert of the UNESCO, UNDP, OAS and OEI.

In addition, he was the Education Director of the Santillana Foundation, where he implemented various initiatives for the educational cooperation with the UNESCO, UNICEF and governing bodies of the aforementioned states.

Between 2003 and 2010, he was the General Director of OEI.

He received the Order of Alfonso X, the Wise, one of numerous recognitions of his activities and dedication in the field of education and culture.
